A recent article in the Edmonton Journal (April 7, 2010) highlights the features critical to your home security system, ensuring that your home is really protected. When our family was broken into, we realized that the value of what was stolen paled in comparison to the feeling of having your sense of security ripped to shreds. Installing a home security system was key in reestablishing our confidence and security, back in our home. When looking for a system, their are a couple key things to keep in mind.

Quality of components installed in your home.

Local monitoring (this cannot be stressed enough)

Ensuring that the system is tested regularly to ensure operational status.

Simple to use. If its too complicated, you will not used it

In the April 2011 issue of Sharp, the article Underground Takeover highlights the concerns of foreign investment and/or takeover, of our Canadian natural resources. The key concerns are:

What is the best way to make the most of our natural resources?

What is is the balanced approach when considering foreign investment?

What role should the Governments play? Both provincial and federal?

This issue affects all Canadians from a broad perspective, and from a local perspective (Edmonton), it directly affects our economy, lifestyle and most importantly our future.

As the sayings goes, the only thing sure in life is death and taxes…so….

Recently my good friend Avideh ( Av-a-day) who is a Wills and Estates lawyer, was on the Global Trouble Shooter, highlighting some new changes to Alberta law that could have some shocking results.
Here are a few of the not no pleasant details.

If you have kids and no will…and you die…your kids will go to foster care until your family gets a court order to get custody.

If your significant other is living with you in your home and you die, they have the right to say in your house and be supported until the estate is settled.

If you are in your second marriage…and you die, you need a clause in your will to protect the estate set aside for your kids.
